I can enjoy my family now!
“I have had other hearing aids in the past and this is the best I’ve ever had. The outside noise is not even there, the TV is on 35 instead of 55 and my temper
and blood pressure are a lot better now! I’m not adjusting my Starkey hearing aid all the time like I did with the other hearing aid, before I had to turn the volume all the way up and now I don’t even have to turn it half way up. I can enjoy my family now when we are talking and around a lot of noise where before I had to either turn my hearing aid off or leave!” - Charley Pierce
His Daughter Lisa is whispering to him and he can for the first time hear her and that was with the TV on as well. She said it was amazing how much better he hears now with just one ear. When he was in the service a grenade went off around his left ear and deafened him in that ear and with working at Chrysler (which he retired in 1997) not much of his right ear has hearing left. She is happy with the way his voice is now because before it was loud and a little irritated because he had to always repeat. But the one thing that makes her happy is that her Father told her he can finally hear the birds singing and can’t wait to hear the rain on the metal roof.
Life at the Pierce home is more like home now with the TV down and talking at a much better, calmer tone!!
- Charley Pierce
I'm aware of the sounds around me...and it's a safer feeling.
Recently Mr. Jack Lee came in to see us here at Cate’s Hearing Aid Service and gave a great report of his new Starkey Hearing Aid that he purchased from us. His wife also has had problems with hearing loss and also is doing great with her new Hearing Aid. Mr. Lee worked and retired from Chrysler here in New Castle and Kokomo IN and has had noise exposure through out his life, mostly from the factory. He commented
“My hearing has improved ten fold....no more saying Huh? I’ve noticed the birds, crickets, frogs and other sounds outside. I didn’t hear the birds or crickets before
getting my hearing aid, my family had to point out certain sounds to me. I also hear my wife so much better and understand her a lot better now! The biggest
thing is, I’m aware of sounds around me, like the traffic and it’s a safer feeling."
- Jack Lee
Don't put off wearing the hearing aids - they will help at any age!
"I have been driving a school bus for eight years and I have to be able to hear the kids. Having my new Starkey aids have opened my ears to hearing so much better than with what aids I had before. I use to have to turn my hearing aids up all the way to hear the bus radio system and now I have to turn them down, it’s amazing the new sounds I am hearing. It’s like driving a cheap car and then going to a Cadillac.
At home I couldn’t hear the little thing that my wife could hear or understand her as much as I wanted too, now I can. Also the small birds and crickets I can hear finally.
When you can’t hear you guess what people say or ignore them... now I can hear what people are saying and can for the first time hear on the phone without all the feedback. People think they’re too young for aids but when you can hear better your able to be with others and not feel left out of the conversation.
Don’t put off wearing the hearing aids because they will help at any age!"
- Sammy Vaughn, New Castle IN
Had all the rest and Starkey is the best...
Bruce Dudley is a long time resident and business owner of New Castle IN and a person who has had hearing loss for many years. He recently traded in two hearing
aids from a local hearing aid company to try the new small Starkey RIC that goes behind the ears. His hearing loss is like a lot of people around here that have been exposed to a lot of noise. He has had a concern of being able to understand speech with noise and to hear his family since he has so much hearing loss. Just recently he came into the office and we thought he wanted batteries or an adjustment... he just
wanted business cards. He told us that out of four sets of hearing aids that he’s had, Starkey’s were the best he’s ever had and that he would not give up his new set for the ones he purchased less than a year ago. “I’ve never been able to understand this well and I’ve had no bad experiences with these new Starkey Hearing aids. I have in the past purchased hearing aids from Doctors and a local company, and Starkey’s
are the best.”
Just ask Mr. Dudley when you see him out, or at his store and he can tell you just
how well he is hearing now. It is his opinion that he has “had all the rest and Starkey
is the best.”

Nerve Tumor Causes Dizziness
Dear Dr. Gott:
Dizziness is a common problem that you've addressed a lot. I suffered for over a year, having been diagnosed with Meniere's after a CT scan showed nothing. Much later, another doctor ordered an MRI that showed an acoustic neuroma. This condition isn't as uncommon as once though. I would encourage anyone with continuing dizziness to have an MRI. It saved my life. I was successfully treated with a gamma knife procedure and have been fine ever since.
Dear Reader:
An acoustic neuroma (also known as a vestibular schwannoma) is a benign, slow-growing tumor on the primary nerve leading from the inner ear to the brain. Symptoms occur as the tumor grows and presses on surrounding blood vessels, brain structures or nerves, leading to hearing loss on one side, tinnitus, facial numbness and weakness, vertigo, unsteadiness and a loss of balance. Rarely, it can grow large enough to compress the brain stem and become life-threatening. In some cases, hearing loss may become permanent.
Treatments include monitoring, radiation and surgicl removal. In your acse, you were successfully treated with a form of stereotactic radiosurgery, a type of radioation therapy. This option allowed the physicaian to deliver radiotion directly to the tumor without affectivng a larger portion of tissue. it doesn't involve any incisions, so it is non-invasive, and is especially beneficial for small or residual tumors. It can take several weeks, months or even years before the effects of this radiation become evident. Risks include hearing loss, balance problems and facial weakness.
Surgical removal is invasive and complicated. because the tumor is on a nerve and near the brain, serious complications can arise if the surgeon is not very precise and experienced. The hospital stay is typically six days and recovery is six weeks or more.
Small tumors that aren't causing symptoms and are no longer growing or are growing slowly typically require only monitoring.

Music May Guard Against Age Related Hearing loss
9 months ago
"Lifelong musical training appears to confer advantages in at least two important functions known to decline with age - memory and the ability to hear speech in noise," said researcher Professor Nina Kraus, director of the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory at Northwestern University in Illinois, US. Previous research has suggested that learning music confers learning advantages on youngsters in the classroom. The scientists carried out tests of memory and speech recognition on 18 musicians and 19 non-musicians aged 45 to 65.ᅠ All the musicians started learning an instrument at the age of nine or earlier and had continued to play throughout their lives. In the tests they outperformed the non-musician group in auditory memory and sound processing tasks, and were better at detecting speech against background noise. Both groups showed an equal ability in tests of visual memory.
It does not appear that there is evidence that taking up music late in life will help prevent age related hearing loss.

I met Jamie thru business, but soon found that I wanted her to see and treat my aging Grandmother. Grandma is a surviving spouse of a Chrysler retiree (Alvis Pfenninger), and qualified for payment with Cates Hearing Aids. I cant believe the difference her new Starkey Hearing Aid has made. I am just thrilled that my Grandma can hear EVERYTHING!!! You wont find better care and hearfelt service than Jamie Cates Hearing Aid Service. You dont know what your missing until you cant hear it.
